ABU Alumni 16th AGA: NPRO candidate assures to rebrand PRO’s office if elects

A Media Consultant and Managing Director, Ed-rees Media Adverts Consult Mr Idris Iliyasu Gusau who is vying for the post of National Public Relations Officer (NPRO) during the forthcoming 16th AGA/Homecoming events of the Ahmadu Bello University Alumni Association has assured that if elected will promote and uplift the standard of the association at all levels.

Speaking to journalists in his office in Gusau, Zamfara state capital, Idris Iliyasu declared that the office of Public Relations Officer being the lives wire of any organisation needs somebody with experienced in human development, good working relationship with media agencies and further more a good knowledge on information management for the office to excels.

The former Chairman, Nigeria Union of Journalists, Zamfara state Council and Managing Director, Zamfara state Newspaper Company further stated that his interest to declare and contest for the post of National Public Relations Officer of the Ahmadu Bello University Alumni Association was as a result of his passion for the job and the pressure he had received from members of the association in the branch and nation in general.

” I have no intention to vie for any political post of our association at the national level, however, because of the pressure i received to contest for the position of the National Public Relations Officer of this our great association, I have no option than to declared interest to contest in order to contribute my quota for the unity and development of the association” he informed.

Mr Idris Iliyasu further informed that it is part of his manifest if elected to reposition and restructure the office of the National Public Relations Officer by increasing brand awareness, strong community engagement, excel in building of the association by increasing good working relationship with media organisations, stakeholders and above all continuesly adapts to evolving communication trends and technologies to ensure that Ahmadu Bello University Alumni Association members reputations and influences continue to thrive.

” If I can do it as public service as information manager, coordinates the activities of the journalists and media agencies then it would be easier for me to manage this office” he reiterated.

He however appeal to all the delegates participanting at the two days event to give him a trial by casting their votes for him with a view to build a formidable NEC team for the development of the association.

While commending the Local Organising Committee (LOC) members for this year’s AGA event, under the leadership of Dr Haruna M. jumare, his able Secretary, Engr. Noel Baki and all members of the association who are contributing directly or indirectly towards the successful hosting of the event for job welldone, Mr Idris Iliyasu Gusau who happens to be an Associate members of Advertising Regulatory Council of Nigeria and Nigerian Institute of Public Relations calls on delegates to vote wisely during the elections by voting right candidates that have experience, commitment, dedication and interest in moving the association forward.

The 16th AGA/ Homecoming events of the association was slated to Commence on Friday 28th – Saturday 30th 2023 at main campus Samaru Zaria with over  370 delegates across the 37! States including FCT Abuja in attendance.

ABU Zaria Alumni constitutes C,ttee for 2024 awards/ Gala Night

The National President Worldwide of Ahmadu Bello University Alumni Association, Malam Adamu Mamman (Barden Kontagora) has constituted a 25 man Committe in preparation for the successful hosting of this year’s ABU Alumni awards/Gala Night ceremony scheduled to hold in Abuja.

Unveiling the list of the Committee members in a statement made available to our reporter qoute the President Worldwide of the association, Malam Adamu Baraden Kontagora saying that “the main committee which is to be headed by Hon. Abubakar Chika Ladan ( Baraden Gwandu), a distinguished alumnus was constituted sequel to approval of the National Executive Council members action plans which was accordingly presented to the National Consultative Council (NCC) and later ratified as part of the series of the activities earmarked for the 2024.

Malam Kontagora added that other members of the committee àlso inxludes; Mr. Sam Agbie Ojie, JP and Engr. (Dr) Abubakar Gambo who are to served as Vice Chairman I and II respectively.

 The remaining are Mr. Ahmed Lanre Olanrewaju, Hon. Suleiman Saidu Darazo, Ibrahim Daku, (Sanyinan Katsina), Dr. Mathew Nwokoye, DCN. David Lambert, Barr. Lateef Abdulsalam, Barr. Anthony Iroagalachi, Dr. Mohammed Haruna Jumare, Maradin Zazzau, Prof. Maryam Aminu Muhktar, Madina Azaaki,

Mr. Bayo Banji Ojo, Engr. Abdulsalam Mohammed Sagir,  Prince Victor Tochukwu Okoli, Barr. Abdulrahman Olawale Solagberu, Arc. Salihu Wanigi, Alhaji Mohammed Grema Nguru, Comrade Dominic Akpan as members respectively.

Also in the committee are the representative of D.U.A & I.E, Abdulkadir Musa (BASICO), Emmanuel Bagaiya (BASICO), Lami Tumaka (BASICO) and National Secretary of the association, Dr. Danjuma Mahmud who is to serve as Secretary of the main Committe.

Highliting on some terms of reference of the committee, the President Worldwide mentioned that, the committee is mandated with responsibilities to ensure proper preparations for the awards/Gala night, identify and adopt parameters for the selection of the awardees, determine and further categorize the honorary awards to the deserving Alumnus of Ahmadu Bello University and friends of ABU Zaria.

 Accordingly, the committee according to him also has the mandate to identify individuals and corporate bodies for sponsorship of the programme, deliver invitation letters to the invited dignitaries and above all commence the preparations for a successful publication of “ABU Alumni Magazine Special edition” to be publish by the association.

While congratulating nominees for being part of the main Committe for the 2024 awards/Gala night ceremony, Malam Kontagora however emphasised that the nominees was selected randomly and based on their records of service, experienced commitments and honesty and advised them to coorpt some members to assist them with a view to hasten and make the job easier. 

” We selected you based on your records of services, your commitments towards the progress and development of our alma- mata and above all your personal interest for the success of our great association, the ABU Alumni”  Kontagora informed.

The first Barden Kontagora while appealing to the general public particularly those in academic environment, politicians, top government officials, corporate bodies, alumnus and friends of the university to invest by supporting the association’s annual action plans and however assured the committee members NEC supports to discharge their work effectively and further reiterated his leadership commitment to service delivery.

He therefore call on all members of the association at all levels to continue praying for the development of the association and new leadership under his watch to excel in order to uplift it standard.

43th Convocation: ABU Alumni inducts 25,432 newly members

The President Worldwide, Ahmadu Bello University Alumni Association Malam Adamu Mamman Kontagora has inducted 25,432 newly members conffered with various degree awards at just concluded 43th Convocation ceremony held at Ahmadu Bello University main campus Samaru Zaria, Kaduna state recently.

Inducting the newly graduates into the association while presenting his Goodwill message at the ceremony,, Malam Adamu Kontagora congratulates the newly inductees for successful completions of their educational programmes and advised them to always remember the university in all the situation they found themselves. 

The President Worldwide informed that, the newly graduates were inducted into the Alumni association because of the degree certificates awarded to them by their respected faculties and therefore call on them to be a good ambassadors of the University wherever they found themselves.

” As a newly graduated students, lelt me use this forum to appeal to you to be a good ambassadors of this prestigious University, Ahmadu Bello University Zaria in whatever the situation you may found yourself” Kontagora reiterated.

While commending the Vice Chancellor of the Ahmadu Bello University Zaria, Prof Kabiru Bala, management and entire of the university for their contributions to the development of the University community and above all, the successful hosting of this year’s convection ceremony, Malam Adamu Kontagora described the occasion as historic considering the programmes itemized and the caliber of personalities invited who  attended the events .

Malam Kontagora however reiterated his leadership commitment in carrying all imembers of the alumni irrespective of years of graduations in discharging his responsibilities.

While pursuing for your carries, the President Worldwide however prays to Almighty God to guide and protect the inductees in every second of their life and further appeal to alumni members for contribution to the University Endowernment funds programme with a view to assist in addressing some of the challenges facing the institution.

Earlier presenting her students who completed their various degree programmes to the Chancellor of the University, His Majesty, Nnaemaka Alfred Ugochukwu Achebe CFR Mani.The Obi of Onitsha for confermation, the National Welfare Officer of the ABU Alumni Association and Dean, Faculty of Life Sciences, Prof Maryam Aminu informed that all students of her Faculty presented for the event have fulfilled the requirements for the award of the various degrees.

” I have no doubt, all the students we presented to you today sir for confermation with various degree certificate awards today have really deserved it and fulfilled all the requirements” Prof. Maryam informed.

Prof. Maryam who is currently the first Famale Dean of the Faculty of Life Sciences of the Ahmadu Bello University Zaria used the occasion to commends the University community for their supports and encouragement to the faculties and further reiterated staffers of the University commitments for qualitative education and development of the University community.

In the same vein,  during the event, a Pre- Convocation lecture was also held at the 1000 Capacity Conference Centre with tittles, ” This is your time: Set forth with confidence and waste delivered by His Excellency, Dr Donald Doke CON and former Governor of Cross Rivers state and distinguished alumnus of the great ABU Zaria prio to the ceremony, as part of the programme for this year’s event.

The 43 Conviction Ceremony was attended by some personalities across the nation which includes, His Royal Highness, the Emir of Zazzau, Ambassador Ahmad Nuhu Bamalli, CFR,  Governor’s of Zamfara and Kaduna states, His Excellencies Dauda Lawal and Send. Uba Sani, ministers, top government officials, politicians, acadamias traditional rulers as well as some members of the National Executive Council of the Ahmadu Bello University Alumni Association respectively.

ABU Alumni commends MacArthur Foundation for $15m. support to ABU Zaria

The National President Worldwide of Ahmadu Bello University Alumni Association, Malam Adamu Mamman Kontagora has described the donation of $15million support to Ahmadu Bello University Zaria to enhance learning by MacArthur Foundation as a welcomed development.

Speaking with our reporter in a telephone interview, Malam Kontagora who commended the management of MacArthur Foundation for the support to the university said, the finacial assistance would no doubt enhance learning and further contribute in addressing some numerous challenges facing the institution.

Malam Adamu Kontagora while reiterating his leadership commitment to contribute for the development of the university however call on alumni members across the globe to emulate MacArthur Foundation by donating generously to the University Endowernment Trust fund for the development of education in the country.,

Earliar in his address the representative of MacArthur Foundatio Africa while presenting ABU’s Diamond Jubilee Public Lecture titled `the Challenges of Quality High Education in Africa’ held at Assembly Hall Main campus Samaru, Zaria . Dr. Kole Shettima, Director, MacArthur Foundation Africa said, the foundation has offered over $15 million support to Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria, to enhance learning and research for national development.

High lighting on some of the projects undertaken by the foundation in the institution, Dr Shattima stated that, “MacArthur foundation was very excited about its interventions at ABU Zaria which includes the installation of fibre optics and linking of the ABU Teaching Hospital, Shika to Samaru and Kongo campuses of the university.

Other supports and interventions renders to the university community by the foundation according to the Director also includes the financial support to 67 Phd’s and 87 Masters’ students among other interventions.

He therefore commended the Vice Chancellor and management of the Ahmadu Bello University for their commitments in uplifting the standard of the institution and further appeal to the federal government and other key stakeholders on the need to increase funding and transparency for high education sector in Nigeria.

Dr Shettima used the forum to commends the leadership styles of Malam Adamu Mamman Kontagora the current National President Worldwide of the Ahmadu Bello University Alumni Association for restructuring the association to a great height and therefore, advised his members to support its alma-mata towards augmenting government efforts to further salvage the institution from its numerous challenges.

Earlier in his remarks, the Vice-Chancellor of the Ahmadu Bello University Zaria, Prof. Kabiru Bala acknowledged the long relationship between the MacArthur foundation and the University stressing that beside TETFunds no individual, local or international organization has supported ABU like Mc Arthur foundation.

Prof Bala said, the university community remained indebted to the Director of the foundation for the support in ICT infrastructure, digitization and automation of libraries and establishment of the some centres.

“ABU was established in 1962 and the diamond jubilee celebration ought to have been celebrated in Oct./Nov. 2022 but ASUU strike could not allow the celebration hence the event now” Vice Chancellor noted.

Prof. Kabiru Bala while appealing for support and cooperation from individuals and corporate organizations further reiterated his determination to ensure that challenges facing the University community would soon be been addressed..

Important personalities within and outside Kaduna attended the event as part of the programme catalogue for the 2923/2924 convocation ceremony.

SRC ABU Zaria honors Mal. Adamu Kontagora

The National President Worldwide of the Ahmadu Bello University Alumni Association, Malam Adamu Mamman Kontagora has been honoured by the ABU Zaria Student Representatives Council (SRC) for his outstanding performance, dedication and support to the entire students of the University.

Presenting the honorary award to the recipients at a colourful ceremony held at Blue Roof Conference Hall, main campus Samaru Zaria recently, the SRC who are the organisers of the event described Adamu Kontagora as exceptional leader with vision.and mission for the development of the Ahmadu Bello University Zaria and ABU alumni association.

According to them, the decision to honour the recipient was as a result of his believes in team work and above all commitments and determination towards ensuring that ABU alumni members worldwide came together as one family.

While reiterating council member and students loyalty to the leadership of Malam Kontagora, the students representative of the Ahmadu Bello University Zaria identified with the leadership styles and further assured to work in synergy with association for the development of the University community.

“We chooses Malam Kontagora for this award becauea of his leadership qualities and his believes in team work when discharging his leadership responsibilities” SRC leadership stated.

Responding after receiving the award Malam Adamu Kontagora thanked the leadership of the students for choosing him to be among the recipient of this historic award.

Kontagora mentioned that the award is not presented to the President of the association, but to the entire members of ABU alumni, he therefore dedicated it to all members of the association Worldwide.

The National President while reiterating his support and assistance to the leadership of the students council however appeal to them to be law abiding in all their dealings and assured them ABU alumni association commitment to give them all the necessary assistance they may requires.

Some of the delegates accompanied Malam Adamu Mamman Kontagora during the dinner includes, Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof. Kabiru Bala, National Welfare Officer and Assistant Secretary of the association, Prof. Maryam Aminu, Dean Faculty of Life Sciences Ahmadu Bello University Zaria and Engr. The President of the Council, Comrade Ahmad Dauda of the Faculty of Administration who presented the award on behalf of the entire members of the association commended the national leadership of the association for bringing alumni members together and further call on the leadership of the association to encourage it’s members Worldwide to contributes in the newly established University Endowment funds for the development of the university.

ABU Alumni Association congratulates Boss Mustapha, 3 others over comferment with Doctorate degrees

The conferment of Honourary Doctorate Degrees to former Secretary to the Government of Federation (SGF), Mr Boss Mustapha and 3 other Alumni members of the Ahmadu Bello University Zaria by the Gombe State University have been described as a well deserved and good omen to the entire members of the Association.

Speaking while congratulating the Honourary awards recipients the President, Worldwide of the Ahmadu Bello University Alumni Association, Malam Adamu Mamman Kontagora in a letter to the recipients on behalf of the National Executive Committee members of the Association and made available to newsmen has commended the Vice Chancellor and management of the Gombe State University for chosing the members of Association for the prestigious awards.

“I personally commends the Governing Council, Vice Chancellor and the entire community of the Gombe State University, Gombe State for honouring our Alumni members with these prestigious awards,” Kontagora reiterated

ABU Alumni set for 2023 16th AGA/Homecoming meeting

Arrangements have been concluded for the forthcoming 16th Annual General Assembly (AGA) and Homecoming events of the Ahmadu Bello University Alumni Association slated to hold between 28th – 30th September, 2023 at main campus Zaria, Kaduna state.

The Chairman, Local Organising Committee of the Ahmadu Bello University Alumni Association  16 AGA/ Homecoming event, Dr Haruna M. Jumare made this known in a statement issued to all branches and chapters of the association across the 37 states including FCT Abuja with regards to the preparation of the even

According to the Chairman LOC during the historical event state both branches and faculty chapters are expected to nominate 10 and 2 delegates each as representatives during the event and further announced NEC approval to allow for the nomination of observers delegates to enable them to participate in most of the association activities during the event without making any contributions.

Already according to the statement registration of delegates from state branches and chapters had since commenced on Monday 7th August and expected to end on 14th September 2023 to enable the LOC to commence preparation for the smooth flagging off of the event.

“Branches and faculties are requisted to furnish the LOC Secretariat with names and addresses of it’s delegates vie Whatsapp or e-mail address to allow us commence arrangements and prepare for the  certification of delegates attending the 16th AGA,s meeting” statement added.

The statement however stated that each state branch attending this year’s 16th AGA meeting is expected to pay a registration fees of N50,000.00 only for the 10 delegates payable to the association account on or before 14th September, 2023.

In another development, the statement further announced the sales of nomination form for members interested to contest for election of new National Executive Council members of the association during the AGA meeting.

The statement therefore advise branch members interested in vying for any vacant offices to fill and return the completed form with evidence of payment attached to the Alumni Association Secretariat, main campus, Samaru Zaria through their Zonal Vice President on or before 28th August, 2023.

The LOC members while commending the NEC and entire working committee members of the association for given them the mandate to organise this year’s Abusite Alumni get together further call on the branches across the nation to follow all the constitutional provision in nominating candidate.

They assured the entire members of the association the LOC members commitment and determination in organising a hitch free and fair  AGA,s and homecoming meeting of the association.

The newly posted Zamfara state Commissioner for Information and Culture, Comrade Mannir Haidara Kaura has assured the staffers of the Ministry and it’s parastatals his commitments in addressing the challenges facing information sector in the state.

Speaking while addressing the management of the Ministry and it’s parastatals after he assumed duty as chief image maker of Zamfara state, Comrade Haidara said he is not new into media affairs and will do his best to reposition the sector.

” As Human right activists, we have been working hand in hand with journalists and media agencies both conventional and social media at all times, I’m not new into the system” he stated.

Hon. Haidara stated am aware of the predicament currently experiancing by the Ministry and it’s parastatals intern of service delivery and promised that with support and cooperation of the staff, it would be address.

While commending the management and entire staff of the Ministry for the warm reception they accorded to him and his team, Comrade Haidara however appeal for their support and cooperation in order to address challenges currently facing information sector in the state.

Earliar in his welcomed address, the Permanent Secretary Ministry of Information and Culture, Barrister Sani Nasarawa commended Governor Dauda Lawal for appointing Comrade Mannir Haidara Kaura, a sessional activist to the core as information manager of Zamfara state.

The Permanent Secretary who was represented by the Director Information, Services, Iliyasu Idris Gusau at the occasion said the management and entire staff of the Ministry were happy with new appointment and further assured their commitment in assisting the commissioner to succeed at all levels.

“We welcomed you to the Ministry and further assured you our determination to give you all the necessary supports for you to uplift information sector in the state” the management reiterated.

The event which was held at the Ministry of Information and Culture headquarters Daza, Kaura Namoda road was attended by all the heads of the parastatals under the supervision of the Ministry namely; Zamfara Radio, Gold City FM, Censorship Board, Zamfara State Printing and Publishing Company, Zamfara Television, Public Enlightenment and Communication, Council for Arts and Culture, History Bureau and host of others respectively.

Comrade Haidara Kaura was among the 18 commissioners recently sworn-in by the Zamfara state Governor, Dauda lawal and posted to Ministry of Information and Culture to over seen the affairs of the organization.
