Banditry: Gov. Matawalle inaugurates four security related c,ttee in Zamfara

In an effort to address the security challenges facing Zamfara state, a four separates security related Committees have been inaugurated by the state government to assist the security agencies on security matters in the state.

Inaugurating the committee’s members at Government House Chamber Gusau, the state capital, Governor Bello Mohammed Matawalle explained that the security related committees established by the present administration are, Special Committee on intelligence gathering on Banditry activities, Management Committee on Operations of the Community Protection Guards (CPG), Committee on Prosecution of Banditry Related Offences, and State Security Standing Committee among others.

In a statement issued to Journalists by Prass Secretary, Office of the Executive Governor, Malam Jamilu Iliyasu Birnin Magaji said, Governor Bello Matawalle while inaugurating the committee’s informed that the establishment of these Committees was part of his administration tireless efforts to address the over a decade old problem of Banditry confronting the state and other parts of the Northwest states.

” it is on record that this administration has explored all workable options to address the issue of armed banditry and related crimes in the state” he explained. 

The Committee members who were selected and appointed based on their track records of performances according to him will further boost the state government efforts to combat the dreadful challenges in both the short and long run and expressed confidence that they will faithfully Carry out their mandates to accomplish the intended goals.

Governor Matawalle lamented that the state Government and the entire security agencies will support the Committees to continuously work out strategies aimed at crushing the tide of banditry in all parts of the state.

“we are aware of misgivings expressed in some quarters regarding the new measures, particularly the decision to encourage members of the communities suffering almost daily from the inhumane aggressions from the bandits to acquire firearms to defend their communities “he informed.

He however reminded people of the state that self-defence is a  natural instinct and has always been part of human survival strategy, saying “as those entrusted with the safety of lives and property of the people, we will do everything possible to uphold this responsibility within the ambit of the law.

” our decision to mobilise people to secure their communities is to complement the efforts of the conventional security forces in dealing with banditry and fishing out informants, pointing out that the acquisition and usage of firearms by members of the general public who desire to do so would be governed by the Nigeria Firearms Act.” Matawalle informed.

While commending the effort of the security personnel in the state for their contributions to address the security challenges across the state, governor Matawalle further called on people of the state to always support his administration’s policies in order to ensure that peace and tranquility return to the State.

Earliar in his acceptance speech on behalf of the Committees inaugurated committee members, the Chairman, State Security Standing Committee, Rtd. DIG Mamman Ibrahim Tsafe and state Commissioner for Security and Home Affairs has assured the Governor of their readiness to justify the confidence reposed in them, so as to accomplish the intended goals and called on the general public to assist them in discharging their responsibilities.

ZMHA estblishes law to punish banditry, cattle rustling, confirm Commissioners/SA

Zamfara state House of Assembly has passed into law a bill for the Prohibition and Punishment for banditry, cattle rustling, cultism, kidnapping, terrorism and other incidental offences 2022.

Presenting the bill before the House, the Chairman House Committee on Justice and Judiciary, Hon. Nasiru Bello Lawal Bungudu called on the legislative members to read for the 3rd time, deliberate and pass it into law accordingly.

According to a statement issued to newsmen in Gusau the state capital by the Director General Press Affairs and Public Relations, Zamfara state House of Assembly, Malam Nasiru Usman Biyabiki quote the Speaker, Hon. Nasiru Mua,zu Magarya saying that the new bill after extensive deliverations and recommendations by the committee’s has unanimously been passed into law and will soon be presented to the Executive Governor for his assent.

Hon. Magarya while commending the Joint House Committees for compiling and presenting the report of the bill before the House, further thanked Governor, Bello Muhammad Matawalle for introducing the new policies and measures to curtail the menace of insecurity militating against the wellbeing of the state. 

“I commended His Excellency, Governor Bello Muhammad (Barden Hausa) for taking these proactive measures and these can only be successful when the prayers and support of all citizens are enjoyed by the government” Magarya added.

In a related development, a bill for a Law for the Establishment of Zamfara state College of Nursing Science Gusau has also been given its first reading.

Earliar presenting the bill to members, the House leader, Hon. Faruku Musa Dosara calls on them to receive and consider to give the bill its first reading which was read accordingly.

The House further screened and confirmed government nominees sent to the house by Governor Bello Muhammad Matawalle who are to serve as Commissioners and Special Advisers in the present administration.

Unveiling the names, Speaker, Rt. Hon. Nasiru Mu’azu Magarya said, the nominees received and confirmed by the house are, Hon. Muhammad Abubakar Gummi, Hon. Sambo Garba Marafa, Abdulkadir Mijin Yawa, Musa Ibrahim Samaru, Kabiru Rabi’u Maru, Nafi’u Rabi’u Anka, Musa Zubairu, Bala Sani Daki Takwas, Aminu Nuhu Falale and Aliyu Muhammad Gayari respectively.

2023 election: Matawalle assures APC will deliver

Governor Bello Mohammed Matawalle of Zamfara state has assured that the ruling All Progressive Congress, (APC) will win the 2023 general elections.

Speaking at his home town Maradun where he hosted the National Women Leader of the APC, Dr Betta Edu, who was in the state to launch her national empowerment scheme for Party Women, Governor Matawalle said, Zamfara state will deliver a minimum of 99% performance in the on-coming general  elections.

In a statement signed by the Special Adviser to Governor on Public Enlightement, Media and Communication, Malam Zailani Bappa quote Matawalle saying that the various factions of the Party have now become one. 

“the initiative to reconcile has brought all the active politicians that matter in the state under one umbrella, which is a first step to success”, Governor Matawalle said.

While commending the National Women Leader of the APC for her choice of Zamfara state to launch her programme governor Matawalle furtaher assured that women in the stare will not disappoint the party.

He however challenged all political leaders in the state to borrow a leaf from the Women Leader who, in spite of being a non indigene in the state, chose to empower its women.
Earliar in her address, the National Women leader, Dr Edu said she has learnt alot from her visit to Zamfara state where she was told a lot of negative things to discourage her from coming.

,” I saw a lot of infrastructures development particularly in the area of security and human development in the state” she reiterated.

During the event a total of 500 women across the state were financially empowered with cash ranging from N20,000 to N100,000 each.

ZMSG to assist investors wish to invest in the state

Zamfara state Government has reiterated it’s committement to provides enabling environment for investors wishing to invest in the development of abundant agro-allied and solid minerals resources available in the state.

Governor Bello Muhammad Matawalle stated this while declaring open Zamfara state special Day at the ongoing “2nd edition of the Kebbi, Sokoto and Zamfara states joint Domestic Trade Fair and Exhibition held at Zinari Hotel, Birnin-Kebbi, Kebbi state.

the business environment created by this administration in Zamfara state includes, the provision of industrial layout with basic infrastructural facilities such as roads, electricity, water and modern hotel accommodations to stimulate investors interest in the state’s economy” Matawalle stated.

Governor Matawalle who was represented by the Director Administration, Zamfara state Ministry of Commerce and Industries, Alhaji Aminu Almajir at the opening ceremony said, Zamfara state has endowed with vast tourism attraction sites such as Kwatarkwashi Rocks, Natu lake, Hippopotamus pond and Namoda tomb among others that that could lead to generation of more revenue to the state.

While commending the organizers of the Joint Domestic trade fair for their wonderful job, Governor Bello however called on investors to come to Zamfara and invest with a view to benefits from the state government gestures.

Earliar in his address, Zamfara state Commissioner of Commerce and Industries, Hon. Yazid Shehu Dan-Fulani Gusau said the joint Domestic Trade Fair gives room to showcase agricultural and solid minerals potential availables in the states to the outside world.

Highlights of the event was the inspection of the displayed agricultural and minerals resource inputs at the Zamfara Pavilion performed by dignitaries among whom are the Magajin Garin Gwandu, Alhaji Aminullah Umar among others.

Insecurity: ZMSG to relocate Tsafe NYSC Orientation camp to Gusau

Zamfara state Government has announced it’s intention to temporary relocates National Youth Service Corp (NYSC) Orientation camp Tsafe to Gusau, the state capital.

Deputy Governor, Zamfara state Senator Hassan Muhammad Gusau made this known when he received Director-General of the NYSC, Brig. General M.K Fadah at his residence in Gusau who was in the state for an official engagement.

Briefing on the security situation in the state, Senator Hassan Nasiha informed the Director General that the situation is gradually improving as relative peace is being restored, while people are going on with their normal businesses.

“the state government reasoned with the NYSC authority for suspending the orientation camp activities in the Zamfara state sequel to the then escalated security challenges” he stated.

He however described the setback as unfortunate development sequel to this according to him Governor Bello Muhammad Matawalle has directed for the allocation of any available facility in the state capital to the authorities of NYSC for immediate relocation and onward resumption of the NYSC engagements in Gusau for the smooth running of the scheme in the state. 

While congratulating the NYSC Director-General on his recent appointment, Senator Nasiha also assured him of the state government’s commitment in providing all that is required for the immediate take-up of the temporary NYSC Orientation Camp.

Speaking earlier, the NYSC Director-General, Brig. General M K Fadah said, they were in the state to inspect and select the best site location as approved by the Zamfara state government.

“with this development and assurances from the gtate government of continuous support, normal NYSC activities will resume in the state with immediate effect. Security challenges are now a global phenomenon that affects almost every nation, and Nigeria is not an exception” he reaffirmed.

He commended the effort of Governor Bello Matawalle in addressing security challenges to the minimum bearing level further expressed appreciation for the hospitality accorded to him and his entourage by the state Government.

Gov. Matawalle named Zamfara Cargo Airport after, “Sambo Dan Ashafa”,

Governor Bello Mohammed Matawalle of Zamfara state has presented a letter of appointment to the new emir of Birnin “Yandoton Daji and named Zamfara State International Cargo Airport after “Sambo Dan Ashafa” the founder of Gusau town, the headquarters of Zamfara state.

Announcing when Receiving the direct descendants of Sambo Dan Ashafa and that of Sarkin Katsinan Gusau, Abdulkadir who was at Government House Gusau to paid a thank you visit to Governor over the recent establishment of the new Birnin “Yandoto Emirate and the appointment of one of the descendants of Sambo Dan Ashafa, Alhaji Aliyu Garba Marafa as the new Emir of Birnin “Yandoto, Governor Matawalle said his decision to immortalized Sambo Dan Ashafa by naming the state International Cargo Airport is in consideration of his virtue and historical tradition as a warrior, Islamic scholar, and a reformer per excellence in the development of Gusau town up to its emergence as a state capital.

“the achievements and development recorded in Gusau town and the Birnin “Yandoto as the first settlement of the descendants of Sambo Dan Ashafa were achieved as a result of his contributions as a founding father of the two Emirates. Governor Matawalle stated.

According to him the decision by his administration to create the new Emirate of Birnin “Yandoto was based on the historical records of “Yandoton Daji as a town and its linkage to the History of “Gusau ta Malam Sambo.” 

While congratulating the new Emir of Birnin “Yandoto, Alhaji Aliyu Garba Marafa and the people of both Gusau and Birnin “Yandoto Emirates over the establishment of the emirate, Governor Bello Matawalle said his administration will continue to accord high respect to the traditional institution as well as provide all the needed support to the traditional rulers across the state.

Forum of District Heads honours Gov. Matawalle, assures to support all government Programmes

Governor Bello Mohammed Matawalle of Zamfara state urged traditional institutions in the state to strengthen synergy with the government and various organs of the security agencies in fighting the prevailing insecurity in the state.

He made the called at Government House when he received the District Heads of the Nineteen Emirates Council across the state under the auspices of the “District Heads Forum” that paid him a thank you visit to express their appreciations on the recent donations of brand new vehicles to them and supports to the traditional rulers in the state.

According to the Governor, the traditional institution is one of the most important organ of government in decision making and other aspects of development in the society, hence the need by his administration to support it at all times.

Matawallen Maradun who expressed his administration’s resolved to accord special respect to the traditional rulers, said his decision to provide Brand New Cars to the emirs and entire district heads across the Nineteen emirates of the state was borne out of his desire to boost their morale, productivity and dignity to maintain their high esteem among their subjects and followers.

” My Government’s strategy is to always ensure sustainable peace, growth and economic development in all parts of the state and my dministration will not relent in seeking the support and cooperation of the traditional rulers and opinion leaders in order to move the state to the next level of development” he stated.

According to him, the achievements recorded in the area of security and transformation of the state by his administration will not have been possible without the maximum support of the traditional institutions and people of the state.

He however noted that it is only when there is peace, that political activities can take place in an atmosphere of unity and also Government  can provide social amenities and other services for the well-being of the people.

While thanking the District Heads for the visit and honour done to him by presenting two horses, a sword and other traditional attire, Governor Matawalle called on all traditional titles holders across the street  to mobilise their subjects to guard the prevailing peace and tranquility and also offer a special prayers to sustain in all parts of the state. 

Earlier in his address, Chairman, Zamfara State District Heads Forum, Alhaji Halliru Muhammad ( Magajin Garin Gusau) said they were at the Government House to express their appreciation to the Governor for the donations of a brand new cars to them and their Emirs as well as other supports by the Governor to the traditional rulers at all times.

The Forum Chairman on behalf of his colleagues lauded the monumental achievements of Governor Matawalle on security and infrastructure development in the state and assured their support in all ramifications for the development of the state.

Gov. Matawalle signs amended Zamfara emirate Council law, creates, Yandoton Daji, Bazai emirates

Governor Bello Mohammed Matawalle of Zamfara state has signed into law, the new amended Emirates Council Establishment law for creating two more emirates out of the existing 17 emirates council in the state.

In a statement issued to newsmen in Gusau, the state capital, the Special Adviser to Governor on Public Enlightenment, Media and Communications, Malam Zailani Bappa stated that the law which was earlier passed by the state legislature was since presented to His Excellency by the leadership of the House of Assembly for his consent, which he effectively received and signed.

The two emirates council created under the new law according to the statement are “Yandoton Daji Emirate with a 2nd class emir which consist “Yandoton Daji, Keta, Kizara, Bawa ganga, Kwaren Ganuwa, Danjibga, and Kuncin Kalgo districts with Headquarters at  Birnin Yandoto was carved out of the present Tsafe Emirate Council while Bazai Emirate also with a second class Emir that comprises of Bazai, Jangeru, Galadi, Katuru, Birnin Yaro, Tungar Kaho and Tubali districts with headquaters at Jangeru were also carved out of the Shinkafi emirate respectively.

While congratulating the two emirates for their elevation to emirate councils, Governor Matawalle further expressed hope that the new development will strengthen the existing bond of quality of traditional leadership at the grassroots level, pointing out that his government will always satisfy the yearnings and aspirations of its people especially when they are in tune with the developmental policies of his administration.

He called on the affected Emirate Councils to be constituted to use the new opportunities at their doorstep to foster more unity and instil more cohesion and discipline in the society as inherited from our forefather.

Gov. Matawalle condoles Yari over loss of his in-law

Governor Bello Mohammed Matawalle of Zamfara state has condoled former Governor, Abdulazeez Yari over the death of his father -in-law, Malam Salihu Mafara.

This was contained in a statement issued to newsmen by the Special Adviser to Governor on Special AdviserPublic Enlightenment, Media and Communication, Malam Zailani Bappa in Gusau, the state capital.

Condoling the family at the residence of the deceased in Talata-Mafara according to the statement,Governor Matawalle who described the death as a great loss further expressed his shock and sympathy over the passing away of the former Governor’s father-in-law, Malam Salihu Mafara.

“Let me convey the heartfelt condolence of my entire family and indeed my Government and good people of Zamfara state over this irreparable loss. We might have lost him in this world, but  we are confident that Allah has received him in the best of abode” Governor Matawalle prayed.

Responding on behalf of the family, former Governor Yari thanked Governor Matawalle for the condolence visit and said he was elated to receive the Governor as he commended him for his exemplary attitude.

“I thank you most profoundly for this exemplary visit, I wish to assure the Citizens of Zamfara state that this time will mark the beginning of a new and better Zamfara state for all of us” Yari assured. 

Late Malam Salihu was the father of Hajiya Fatima the wife of former Governor Abdulazeez Yari. He was buried last Friday at Talata-Mafara.

ZMHA approves two more emirates council in Zamfara

Zamfara state House of Assembly members have approved the creation of two additional emirates council in the state.

Presenting the bill of the state Emirate Council Establishment law No.15 of 2000 for amendment at the plenary chamber of the state house by the Deputy House leader, Hon. Nasiru Bello Lawal Bungudu urged members to support the bill for the establishment of the two more emirates council in the state with a view to bring them more closer to the government.

In their separate contributions on the matter, members stressed the need to amend the bill and allow for the creation of more emirate councils in the state considering their roles in the socio- economic development of the state.   

After first and second readings of the bill the Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Nasiru Muazu Magarya after extensive deliverations on the issue later broke the members into the committee of the whole-house for further deliberation and recommendations for further action. 

While reporting the outcome of the committee of the whole-house’s meeting at the plenary session, the Speaker said the house has agreed with some  recommendations that will help in amending the bill, which includes a unanimous decision of the lawmakers to create two additional emirate councils in the state, after the third reading of the bill.

The two emirates council approved for  creation by the house are “Yandoton Daji out of Tsafe emirate and Bazai out of Shinkafi emirate respectively.

“Yandoton Daji Emirate with second class emire comprises’Yandoton Daji, Keta, Kizara, Bawa Ganga, Kwaren ganuwa, Danjibga and Kunchin kalgo districts with it’s headquarters at Birnin ‘Yandoton town, while Bazai Emirate with second class emir also comprises of Bazai, Jangeru, Galadi, Katuru, Birnin yaro, Tungar kaho and Tubali districts has its headquarters in Jangero town respectively” the Speaker stated.
