Matawalle’s political Olive branch

By : Zailani Bappa

Governor Bello Mohammed (Matawallen Maradun, Shattiman Sakkwato) has finally in his ancestral home of Maradun, registered, officially, as a bonafide member if the Ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). He has earlier announced his decamping and subsequent reception into the Party by the National Headquarters of the party in a grand occasion which was attended by 12 sitting Governors of the Party. In effect, he has also assumed his office, today, as the leader of the Party in Zamfara State.

This is indeed, the moment all peace loving citizens of Zamfara state and its well wishers are waiting for. A time when the leadership of the state will fall in line with the mainstream political choice of the people which is the APC. This is the renaissance period for the young state of Zamfara and its people as the main ideological leaning of the people is now in tandem with its type of political leadership choice, a case of eating one’s cake and actually having it.

From the inception of the present administration of Governor Matawalle to date, we have seen the worst of political conflict between those who held the reign is the APC in the state and the authority that holds power under the lucky PDP as at then. The conflict of ideological and political interests left the troubled state of Zamfara in a very anguished state with a lot of spanners thrown from every direction into the works of governance.

Every discerning mind has found it wise and progressive for Governor Matawalle to take the bull by the horn and find a unifying ground for the political interests that dotted the map of politics in the state. His latest move should ordinarily be the melting point and pot for the political interests that hitherto, clashed and drew progress backwards.

It is important for everyone of us to note the large heart displayed by His Excellency in the eve of today’s registration when he decidedly lowered his wings and visited a select political heavyweights to discuss the way forward for the general interest of the people of the state. It is expected that these political juggernauts will reciprocate this kind gesture and also lower their wings as well for the interest of the people of Zamfara state.

The next two years of Governor Matawalle’s administration should witness better peace and more development than the last two years because the state cannot afford to undergo another round of quarrel that is of no significance since power is bestowed by God on whoever He so wishes to. And He has demonstrated it twice by giving the authority of governance to Matawalle and now, the power to lead the people’s Party in the state.

It is the duty if all and sundry, especially the supporters of all camps to advise their leaders to accept this arrangement by the Almighty and allow the progress of Zamfara state to proceed. I am confident that Governor Bello Mohammed is one politician who is firm but nor greedy. He is aggressive but also kind. And he is bold but accommodating.

These should dispel fear and anxiety as the next two years of Governor Matawalle will strive to carry every person, every interest and every camp on board to the bank of our present troubled waters. It is incumbent upon all and sundry to accept this olive branch for the sake of Zamfara state.
