Zamfara Police arrest two students in connection to kidnap school Principals

 Police in Zamfara state have arrested two Secondary students in connection with threats to kidnap a Principal, staff and students of their respective schools.

Parading the suspects to newsmen at the command headquarters in Gusau, Zamfara state  Commissioner of Police (CP), Mr Husaini Rabiu said,the command has  received a reports of the threat from authorities of the Federal Government College (FGC), Anka and Dominican College, Gusau.

”On 25th June, 2021, a letter in respect of the above subject matter was found close to the suggestion box of Dominican College, located in Sha’iskawa area, Gusau, the letter contained a threat to kidnap the Principal of the school, Rev. Sister Chinyere and some students of the school” CP Rabiu stated.

Receiving the complaint from the schools management according to the Vommissioner,  the police detectives goes into action and arrested one Donatus Ejeh, as the principal suspect.

CP Rabiu said that, when the suspect was arrested and interrogated, it was discovered that he was an SS3 student of the school.

In the same vein, CP Rabi’u further stated that, Principal of Federal Government College Anka, had also reported to the Divisional Police Officer that an unknown person called her and demanded 3 million naira ramson or otherwise kidnap some students of the college, when the officers received the complaint, police swung into action and arrested one suspect, Tukur Bashir from Bakura local government area of the state.According to him all the suspects are under investigations before taking them to court.

He added that the command also arrested 45 suspects over alleged criminal conspiracy, public disturbance and rioter and one locally fabricated gun, 37 Motorcycle, one Vehicle, 6 Jerry Cans of petroleum and one bicycle were recovered from them.

TETFUND commended, advises stakeholders to contributes to education sector

Senate Committee on Tertiary Institutions and TETFUND has been commended for their determination and support in ensuring that stakeholders were engaged in contributing their quota for the development of education in the country. 

Speaking during a Senate Committee on Tertiary Institutions and TETFUND public hearing on a bill for the establishment of Federal University Gusau held in Abuja, the Senate President Dr Ahmad Lawal stated that the main objective of the event was to subject four Tertiary Institutions to rigorous interactions. 

“The institutions are, Federal University of Technology, Offa, Federal University of Agriculture and Technology Aboh, Federal University Gusau and the  Institute of Information and Communication Technology, Ogoja” he stated.

Dr Ahmad Lawal said, the bill for the establishment of Federal University Gusau which was sponsored by Senator, Sahabi Ya’u representing Zamfara North have the potentials of bringing opportunities associated with education to the doorsteps of the respective host communities of the states where the Universities are to be established. 

Speaking on behalf of the sponsor of the bill for the establishment of the Federal University Gusau, the Vice-Chancellor of the University, Prof. Mu’azu Abubakar Gusau stated that the University was established in 2013 and had since commenced operation, lamenting that the University was yet to have legal framework to enable it perform its mandates effectively.  

He further stated that the core values of the University are Personal, professional and academic integrity, Innovative thinking, responsible and sustainable business practices, professionalism and diligence, Ethical behavior, civic responsibility, multi-cultural awareness, tolerance and sustainability of resources.

Prof Mu,azu therefore urged the committee members to strategically ensure quick passage of the bill into law for the establishment of the University in the state.

Gov. Matawalle condoles late G. Ahmed families, described him as honest politician

Governor Bello Mohammed Matawalle of Zamfara condoles the families of late Hon. Muhammad G. Ahmad, a member representing Shinkafi local government area at the state assembly and expressed shock over the sudden attacked by the un known bandits.

“late Hon. Muhammad G. Ahmad  was with me throughout the events of my preparations ahead of his exit from the PDP to the APC and making his own valuable contributions towards a successful event, not knowing he was carrying out his final assignments in this world” governor Bello stated..

He however prayed Allah to grant the deceased Jannatul Firdaus and the family, the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.

The Shattiman Sakkwato who  was at the Janaza prayer of the deceased which was held at the Sheik Umar Kanoma Jum’at Mosque along Sokoto by-pass Road, Gusau also described late Muhammad G Ahmad as a honest and hardworking member who believed in telling the truth at all time and on any matter.

Condolling deceased family, Governor Matawalle said his death is a lost to him, his government and the entire state and prayed Almighty Allah to accept his Shahadat and give his immediate family the fortitude to bear the loss 

Before his death, Hon. Muhammad G. Ahmad was the Chairman, House Committee on Appropriation. He was killed by unknown gunmen who attacked his vehicle near ‘Yankara village of Katsina state on his way to Kano to accompany his son to board a flight to Sudan where he is studying.

His funeral prayer was led by the Chief Imam of Abdullahi Fodio Islamic Centre, Sheikh Ahmad Bin Umar Kanoma and was attended by the Former Governors, Senator Ahmad Sani Yarima  and Alhaji Mahmud Aliyu Shinkafi, Speaker Zamfara state House Assembly Hon Nasiru Ma,azu Magarya, Senators, traditional rulers, politicians, civil servants and host of others.

Gov. Bello joins APC, calls for reconciliation

Governor Bello Mohammed Matawalle of Zamfara state has formally decamped from People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressive Congress (APC).

Presenting the flag of the Party at a colourful ceremony held in Gusau by the Party Caretaker Committee Chairman and Yobe state Governor, Hon.Mai Mala Buni in company of ten APC Governors, the SGF and two Ministers the APC National Caretaker Committee Chairman said as from today, Governor Bello Mohammed is the official leader of the Party in the state just as he used the power bestowed on him by the constitution to dissolve the state executive of the party.

“From now on you are the leader of our great Party  in Zamfara state. You will await further arrangements for the new party structure from him” the Chairman said.

Receiving the Party’s flag from the National Care taker Chairman, Governor Matawalle accepted the leadership of the Party just as he declared his membership of the party and further called on all party members to rally round him to build a new APC in the state.

While commending the national leadership of APC for their support governor Matawalle further declared his membership of the All Progressive Congress  along with all his serving senators, 6 of the 7 House of Representatives members and all the 23 members of the state House of Assembly to the national committee.

Speaking at the occasion, the former APC leader and former Zamfara state Governor Hon. Abdul-azeez Yari Abubakar has declared his support and commitment to work with Governor Bello Matawalle for the success of the party in the state and prayed for God to prevent any evil from crossing their path in the party again.

Zamfara Police rescue four women from bandits

Zamfara state Police Command has    rescued  four kidnapped victims by suspected armed bandits in Bilbis, Tsafe local Government area.

In a statement issued to newsmen in Gusau and signed by the command  Public Relations officer SP Muhammad Shehu said the victims who were all women spent 3 weeks under captivity before their rescued by the team of police men attached to the area by the command.

SP Shehu explained that the command under the leadership of CP Husaini Rabiu deployed police Tactical operation attached to “Operation Restore Peace” to the area with a mandate to rescue the kidnapped Women.

In Compliance with the directives according to him and the operatives worked on credible intelligence which led to the successful rescued of the kidnapped victims. 

While commending the command for the job well done the statement further stated that, effort is being made to the command to arrest the perpetrators of the crime in order to face the full wrath of the law.

Zamfara first lady disburses 2,000 bags, educational materials to female students

Wife of the Executive Governor and first lady Zamfara state, Hajiya Aisha Bello Muhammad has reiterated her commitment towards increasing the enrollment and retention of the Girl child in schools across the state.

Speaking during the Flagging off ceremony of the Girl Child Education project held at the Government Girl’s Secondary School Tudun Wada Gusau Hajia Aish buttressed the point that her foundation, Aide a l’aide, seeks to ensure that girls in zamfara state are provided with educational support to uplift their socio economic status.

Hajiya Aisha Matawalle appreciated the tremendous effort put in place by the Zamfara state Governor, Hon. Dr Bello Muhammad Matawalle in supporting all her initiatives.

 ” I want to use this opportunity to reiterate my call on everyone to take charge of promoting girl child education.It is my honor to flag off the distribution of educational materials to 2,000 girls to help them explore their potentials in various career  fields” she stated.

While commending the general public for their support to all her Programme the first lady further stated that her office and Foundation will remain solidly committed to all matters relating to the educational, economic, and social wellbeing of women and girls across the state.

She later donated 18 seater Bus,  Five Sewing Machines to the Skills Acquisition Center of the School and Cash to the teachers and students of the School.

Earlier, in their separate speeches the Executive Secretary, Female Education Board, Fr. Barira Ibrahim Bagobiri and Principal of the College, Hajiya Zulaiha Muhammad described Her Excellency’s visit to the school as a historic, timely and welcome development.

They commended the foresight of the first lady in promoting Girl Child Education in the state and further described the First lady’s visit to the school as an encouragement to the teachers, students as well as education managers in the state.

Zamfara NSCDC recovers bags of Precious stones illegally mined in Sauna village

Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) Zamfara state command has recovered 14 bags of illegally mined precious stones at Sauna, Talata Mafara Local Government area of the state.

Speaking to news man shortly after the recovered of the illegally mined stones at mining site in Sauna area, the command Public Relations Officer DSC Aminu Ismail Maru explained that, the precious stones were recovered as a result of tip off  in  collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Solid Minerals Development aimed at stopping the illegal mining in the State. 

“Our men (NSCDC) in collaboration with state office of the Federal Ministry of Solid Minerals Development acting on credible information raided the mining site and recovered 14 bags of precious stones” he stated.

According to him on reaching the site, the suspected illegal miners have absconded and left behind fully loaded bags of precious stones which our men brought to the command.

He maintained that, men and officers of NSCDC Zamfara state Command would continue to raid any illegal mining sites across the state.

“We would not relent on our efforts in fighting the activities of illegal miners across the state”  Maru re-iterated.

Zamfara Assembly to investigates funds meant for PHCs

Zamfara State House of Assembly has passed a resolution to investigates the alleged diversion of funds meant to cater  for Primary Health centres in the state.

 In his submission to the House during a sitting under matters of urgent public importance, Hon Faruk Musa Dosara, House leader said, the money which was released to the state by the National Health Intervention Agency, aim at ncreasing health care needs of the primary health centres in the state was allegedly diverted. 


The funds according to the House leader if properly disbust, each primary health centre in the state would benefits with  N610,000.00 for the provision of drugs and some health consumable, however the sum of N500,000 was alledgelly diverted  to  different account domicile in Drugs and Consumables Management Agency which each Primary health centre was left with only a  N110,000.00 only .

Hon Dosara drew the attention of his colleagues to as a matter of urgency and in spirit of fairness to investigate the matter  so as to unvail the real truth of the matter.

Responding on the issues the Speaker, House of Assembly Rt. Hon Nasiru Mu’azu Magarya salute the caurage of the House leader for raising this fundamental issue and further allow members to freely deliberated on the issue at the floor of the chamber .

After series of contributions on the matter, Speaker Magarya mandated the House committee on Health and Human Medicine under the chairmanship of Hon Abdulnasir Ibrahim Gayari to fully investigate the matter and submit its findings to the House in the next one month to come.

In another development, a bill to repeal and re-enactment of Zamfara State Local Government Administration law 2021 scaled second reading and send to the Committee on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs for scrutiny and submit its findings to the House in the next two weeks .

The House also considered a Private Member bill sponsored by Hon. Yusuf Alhassan Kanoma representing Maru North on deteriorating nature of Secondary Schools education particularly on the  conducts of Senior Secondary Certificate of Education (SSCE)  as well as WAEC and NECO exterminations to students in public schools across the state. 

The members after careful deliberations on the bills unanimously adopted all the recommendations with a view to submit same to the state government for possible implementation.

Emir Sanusi who was recently appointed as the Caliphate of As Shaykh Ibrahim Inyass of Tijjaniya Sufi brotherhood in Nigeria urged his followers to brace the child education as their top priority for building a better society that face the current challenges; poverty, illiteracy and unemployment.

Zamfara first lady empowers 500 vulnerable women

Wife of the Executive Governor and First Lady Zamfara state, Hajiya Aisha Bello Muhammad has empowered 500 vulnerable women in the state.

Presenting 250 tailoring and 250 grinding machines to the beneficiaries under her Zamfara State Women empowerment scheme the first lady said the gesture is part of office commitments to alleviate poverty among women in the society.

She stated that the provisions ofJune empowerment is in line with her office continuous strive to provide a sustainable means of livelihood for women was in continuation of the activities making the  achievements of Governor Bello Muhammad Matawalle’s  two years administration in the state under the First Lady’s office.

Hajiya Aisha Bello Matawalle , while presenting the sewing and grinding machines to beneficiaries further said the gesture would no doubt help women in the state to explore their potentials and create an enabling environment where they will be  economically uplifted.

“the empowerment scheme which has improved the living standard of over 38,000 women so far, keeps recording more success stories across the state” she re-iterated..

She urged the beneficiaries to make judicious use of the machines for their livelihoods so as to gain more positive results economically.

The first lady however expressed appreciation to her husband, the for his support morally and financially  for the sustainability of the Programme and further applauded his passionate and commitment to the plights of women and children in the state.
