The Governor of Katsina State, Rt. Hon. Aminu Bello Masari, was in Gusau this afternoon. He was specially chosen by His Excellency, Dr Bello Mohammed to commission the the newly re-modeled State Legislature named after the late Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Alhaji Ibrahim Mallaha.

For 23 years, the Legislative arm of the Government in the state had operated under very rickety and dilapidated structure. The second Arm of Government and the main symbol of democracy is now proud to have a befitting edifice with its mace smiling and ready to ooze out benevolent authority.

With the above narrative, who else is more befitting to commission this edifice than Rt Hon Masari? For one, his state is one of the immediate neighbors of Zamfara state. Secondly, he is considered by His Excellency, Dr Bello Mohammed as an elder brother. And thirdly, and very importantly, he was the Speaker of our National Assembly at one time and a leader to Governor Matawalle who was also a three term Law maker at the National Assembly.

The occasion was superlative, rosy and a smash success. It started well and ended up well. Governor Masari climaxed his visit with commissioning one of the 18 Governors’ Chalets built inside the Government House by the Matawalle administration.

He commissioned the Katsina House, a four bedroom Chalets dedicated to Katsina state Governor and his officials whenever they are on official assignment in Zamfara State.

But what stole my attention from the whole event was born out of the speech delivered by the Katsina state Governor who hammered on the security situation in the North West Zone.

He fundamentally touched the very center point of Matawalle’s heart in terms of governance and the need to deliver true democratic dividend which is premised upon peace and tranquility. He emphasized the need to come together as one and deal with the problem with one voice and one weapon.

Few months into his administration, Governor Matawalle spearheaded a grand meeting of the whole North-West Governors which incidentally held in Katsina. At the behest of his peace process which has started yielding results by then, Governor Matawalle urged his colleagues in attendance to toe his succeeding line. And those in attendance were all. Kano, Jigawa, Kaduna, Kebbi, Sokoto, Niger, the host Katsina and himself were all in attendance. Significantly, even Plateau, Taraba and Kogi state Governors were also in attendance.

However, the Devil, they say, never rests. The Governors ended up in disarray of policy harmony afterwards as each party finds his way all alone. Kaduna State Governor openly opposed Matwalle’s policy in the media. Even his elder brother, Masari, subtly went loggerheads. At a point in time, the Niger state Governor went difficult to comprehend as well. The bandits noticed the conflict among the Governors and at one time, they capitalized on it and the result was very bad indeed.

However, today, the speech made by His Excellency, Governor Masari, at his own choice and volition, was re- assuring which shows that he and Matawalle are perfectly on the same page now as to the fight against banditry in their two states. I remember that similar scenario played out when Governor Matawalle visited his other elder brother, the Kebbi state Governor Alhaji Atiku Bagudu some two weeks ago. The calm synergy existing in the relationship could not be missed at all.

Now at least, the Governors of Katsina, Sokoto, Kebbi , Zamfara and Niger states are in harmonious understanding on the fight against banditry. With this kind of positive developments taking place, we hope the Devil will finally be shamed and that the entire North West Governors will come to the table and speak to themselves with one voice so that the fight against the agents of the Devil will be won and our people will be freed from decade long of banditry and wanton death.

The aim was to cushion the effect and rate of poverty among under privileged women in the state, and the gesture has significantly uplifted their socioeconomic status.

As part of her desire to make women in the state become self dependent or self employed, Inna Wuron Kaura-Namoda introduced WOMEN EMPOWERMENT PROGRAMME designed to train women in various skills acquisition schemes such as making sanitary pads, body cream, learning tailoring, knittings, detergents and soap making.

About 22,000 women from the 14 local government areas of the state were mobilized and given technical training on the above vocational trades, and each participant received a sawing machine, input materials and N5,000 cash from the First Lady as a starter kick to apply their skills into profitable ventures.

This initiative had saved many winning mothers and their new born babies in the state of many hazards.

Hajiya Aisha Bello Muhammad Matawalle considers the rights, dignity and chastity of women very seriously.

In view of the above, she launched a 15-day Statewide Sensitization and Awareness Campaign to fight out violence against women or Gender Based Violence which she took to the streets, royal fathers, educational/religious institutions and security outfits in the state.

As part of her care for women, the First Lady took drastic measures against drug abuse among youths, with special concern for young girls. Her prompt action had saved many young girls especially, from the dangers of drug abuse in the state.

Sequel to her fight against drug abuse, Inna Wuron Kaura-Namoda took upon herself to renovate the NDLEA Rehabilitation Center in Gusau, the state capital.

The Office of Her Excellency has empowered several women groups and women business associations in the state by giving them grants and other financial backing to improve on their own for self reliance.

The First Lady did not relent in prioritizing and protecting women dignity, hence her office trained 20 secondary school girl students on the techniques of personal hygiene and general cleanliness during mensuration who would in turn, guide other women on how best to take care of themselves whenever they are in their mensuration period.

In fact, Inna Wuron Kaura-Namoda has performed creditably well and has achieved much in the last two years of the current administration in the state which endeared her in the hearts of the people of Zamfara state, especially the women folk.

Her magnanimity has earned her respect and fetched her several awards from individuals, groups, corporate bodies and associations, among whom is the National Association of Women Journalists, NAWOJ.
