Zamfara Police repel bandits attack in Anka

Zamfara State Police Command has succeeded in repelling attack on Fulani settlement, by suspected armed bandits in Anka local government area.

This was contained in  a press release signed by the Command Public Relations Officer PPRO  SP Ahmad Shehu and made available to newsmen in Gusau the state capital.

 According to the PPRO, On 2nd  June, 2021 at about 1700hrs, Police Tactical  Operatives deployed to Anka LGA were alerted that, armed bandits in their hundreds stormed a fulani settlement located at the outskirt of Anka town with intent to attack and rustle cows belonging to them.

The command spokeperson stated that, Combine Police team in collaboration with military mobilized to the scene where they engaged the hoodlums to a gun duel. As a result, they scampered to the forest and escaped with a possible gun shot wounds.

” all the rustled cows were recovered for the Fulani communities, Rigorous confidence building patrol is being sustained to avert any attempt by the bandits to regroup for another onslaught”, the statement added.

While commenting on the issues, the Commissioner of Police Zamfara state Command, CP Hussaini Rabiu psc, commended the joint security operatives for the resilience and urged them to sustain the tempo until lasting peace is restored in the state. 

CP Hussaini Rabiu again called on the general public to continue to support the Police and other security agencies in the current fight against criminal elements in the State.

Information Commissioner hands over, list achievements in 2 months in office

Former Zamfara state Commissioner of Information, Hon. Ibrahim Magaji Dosara, has expressed happiness over the opportunity given to him by his Excelle,ncy’s to served as information Commissioner in the state.

Presenting the  handing over note to the Permanent  Secretary of the ministry Alhaji Sani Nasarawa at the headquarters in Daza area, the former commissioner thanks the staffers of the ministry for the cooperation given to him and further listed some of the achievements he recorded during the two months of his tenure as the commissioner of information in the state.

In a statement issued to newsmen by the Director of Information and Services, Mallam Usman Muhammad Maru revealed that the former Commissioner during the period under review had secured the reopening of the state FM station which was shut down by the NBC.


Other achievements recorded by the commissioner also includes the approval he secured from His Excellency for the establishment of the state Media Corporation which was aimed at enhancing the capacity, efficiency and effectiveness of the state media industries to generate more revenue and serve the people better, in terms of information, enlightenment, entertainment and awareness.

The statement further stated that the media organization to work under the close supervision of the Media Corporation are, the Zamfara State AM Radio, the Gold City FM Radio, the Zamfara State Television, the Zamfara State Newspaper Company—Publishers of the Legacy Newspapers, the State Censorship Board and the state Government Printing Press respectively.

” with the media corporation, and close supervision of the Management by the Corporation, the revenue generation derive of the media industry will increased and  provide more jobs opportunities” the statement further reiterated. 

The outgoing commissioner therefore urged the Permanent Secretary and the management of the ministry not to relent their efforts to ensure the implementation of the new government policies for the realization of their set objectives.

” I urged the staff of the ministry to continue to be law abiding and loyal citizens to the government of Barden Kasar Hausa, for the realization of his administration’s  objectives of providing adequate security to the people and availing them of the dividends of democracy” he adviesd.

Taking over the affairs of the Ministry,  the Permanent Secretary Barrister Sani Nasarawa hail the wonderful performance of the Commissioner in moving the Ministry and the state media industry forward and  promised to continue from where he stopped adding the the management will continue to seek the counselling from the former commissioner in matters relating to media activities in Zamfara state.  

BOI/GEEP evaluators commend Gov. Matawalle over CARES implementation

The Bank of Industries / Government Enterprises Empowerment Programme (BOI/ GEEP ) evaluators have commended Governor Bello Muhammad Matawalle of Zamfara state over his dogged implementation of COVID-19 Action Recovery and Economic Stimulus Programme (CARES) in the state. 

 The Permanent Secretary Ministry of Budget and Economic Planning, Alhaji Garba Altine Dauran disclosed this while making a brief presentation during a meeting with officials of the British High Commission at the Government House, Gusau.

In a statement issued to newsmen by the Director General Media and Public Enlightement and Communication, Mallam Yusuf Idris said the Permanent Secretary informed at a meeting that Bank of Industries BOI  and Government Enterprises Empowerment Programme GEEP have unanimously rated Zamfara state fifth position in the first phase implementation of CARES Programme among all the 36 states of the country.

The statement further explained that the ranking was communicated to the state Coordinating office of NGCARES Zamfara Coordinating Unit of the state Ministry of Budget and Economic Planning by the BOI and GEEP evaluators. 

As a result of that the statement further added that Zamfara has been positioned 5th in the implementation readiness which by extension means that the state, under Governor Bello Matawalle is determined to bring a lot of development according to the indicators.

He said, CARES is aimed at total economic recovery stimulus for which the government earmarked funds to carryout a lot of Humanitarian activities  in the state. 

The UK high Commission team was led during the meeting by the Head of Governance, Conflict and Social Development of the Abuja Mission office, Mr. Sam Weldock 

Insecurity: Gov. Matawalle appeals for UK support to end bandtry

Governor Bello Mohammed Matawallen Maradun, of Zamfara state has appealed to the United Kingdom Government to support his administration’s efforts to end banditry and other criminal activities in the state.

Matawalle made the appeal while receiving a delegation from the UK High Commission in Nigeria led by the Head of Governance, conflict and Social Development of British High Commission, Abuja, Mr. Sam Weldock, who was in Zamfara state on a high level security meeting in the state, urged UK to continue to sustain its cooperation with the Federal Government of Nigeria and other state Governments in the fight against insurgency and other security breaches in the country.

While briefing the delegation on the security challenges bedevilling the state and his Administration’ committments to restore the lost glory of Zamfara, Governor Bello said his model of dealing with the security challenges in the state includes a combination of negotiation with bandits and use of kinetic power.

He further explained that, the security challenges he inherited had posed a great deficit in achieving the desired goals on his Administration, saying the security breach has virtually affected every sector of the socio- economic activities of the state. 

As part of the efforts taken to brought relative peace, sanity and prevent escalation of lawlessness in the state, according to him, his administration has recently approved an immediate declaration of proclamation on the entire state,  this emanated from the ‘shoot on sight” order by President Muhammadu Buhari on anybody found  in possession of guns unlawfully.

While commending the UK Government for its support on security and general well being of Zamfara state and Nigeria in general, Governor Bello said there is no country in a better position to support the state than the UK considering its  position in the area of security.

” we thanked the UK Government for all it has been doing in terms of support and cooperation to the state and Nigeria as a whole” he reiterated.

Earlier in his remarks, the Head of Governance, Conflict and Social Development of the British High Commission, Abuja, Mr. Sam Weldock said they were in Zamfara state to extend more support to the state and other North-Western states of the country on security in the region in order to achieve return of peace and tranquility.

He explained that, generally, UK Government is worried about the security challenges, adding that his Country would support Zamfara state to overcome many of its problems.

Zamfara First lady distributes sanitary pads to women, promotes hygienic practice

Wife of the Executive Governor of Zamfara state Hajiya Aisha Bello Muhammad (MON) has organised an awareness creation exercise to promote hygienic practice during menstrual cycle for young female students across the state.

In a press release issued to journalists by the Press Secretary, Office of the First lady Malama Zainab Shu,aibu Abdullahi shows that the event which was held at Government Girls Day Secondary School, Samaru, Gusau was part of the celebration for the World Menstrual Hygiene Day 2021 initiated by the German non-profit WASH United in 2013 to engage decision makers and individuals on a campaign to break the silence, raise awareness and change negative social norms around Menstrual Health and Hygiene, at a global level.

Speaking during the event, the Zamfara First Lady ,Hajiya Aisha Matawalle said the exercise was part of the First Lady’s commitments to support young girls with knowledge on menstrual hygiene as well as ensuring that they live in a world where every woman is empowered to manage her menstruation safely, hygienically, with confidence and without shame.

The first lady who was represented by her Special Adviser, Hon. Fatima Musa added that this year’s theme which is focused on “Action and Investment in Menstrual Hygiene and Health ” seeks to educate girls in understanding their cycle and further highlight them on solutions to address the challenges girls and women worldwide face due to menstruation.

The First lady urged communities at all level to come together and put a stop to persisting taboos and stigma on women, which undermines their educational opportunities, health and overall social status around the world.

Earlier in her presentation at the event, Matron Larai Ka’oje enlightened the students on proper hygienic menstrual management in order to avoid infections that may lead to serious health complications in the reproductive system.

According to the nursing officer , maintaining proper menstrual hygiene is vital to the health, well-being, mobility, and productivity of women and girls and also practicing the covid 19 safe measures.

In her remarks during the event the Principal of GGDSS Samaru, Hajiya Kulu Shehu thanked Her Excellency for the gesture aimed at supporting girls with sanitary pads and health talks to help them undergo their periods conveniently.

The sanitary pads and  the 28 days White and Red bracelets which symbolises the total menstrual cycle was received from the First Lady ,Haj Aisha Matawalle and worn by the female students and teachers with excitement.

The day was comemmorated by the First lady in collaboration with procter and Gamble through the Nigeria Governors wives Forum ,in which her Excellency is an active member.

Zamfara Assembly to enact law to guarantees PWD equal opportunity

Zamfara State House of Assembly will soon enact a law to guarantee persons with disability were given equal opportunity in all sectors of life in the state.

This assurance was given by a member representing Anka Constituency at the state Assembly,Hon. Yusuf Muhammad while speaking at the opening of a three day workshop on Zamfara State Disability Bill harmonization organized by the Save the Children International (SCI) in Gusau.

The lawmaker explained that, the bill if passed into law will ensure the full integration of persons with disability into the society by establishing a commission that will be responsible for their education, health and other rights issues.

“We are about to start working on a bill specifically meant to protect and fully integrate persons with disability into all facets in Zamfara state", he said.

The law maker therefore call on the participants to contribute positively to ensure that all special needs of people with disabilities are specified so as if the bill passed into law would gives deserved protection to persons with disability in the state.

He said persons with disability are vulnerable and must be given a special attention by government and others donor agencies to enable them contribute for the development of the society.

“For us as a state to developed, we must support and give persons with disability equal opportunities to participate in all aspects in the state without discrimination,” he said.

Earlier in his address the Advocacy and Communication Officer of the SCI, Malam Nura Muhammad Dantawasa said the workshop is organised to harmonize all disability bills in order to have a formidable bill if passed into law would be of immense benefit for persons with disability in the state.

According to him, Save the Children International in the last three years has being supporting Social Protection Programmes (SPP) and also ensuring that thebrights of persons with disability are projected.

Mallam Nura said, though the Child Grant Development Programme (CDGP) will be winding up in July,2021 the SCI may get another nod from the donor agencies to implement another project in the state.

“The SCI may get approval to carryout another programme to benefit the vulnerable in the state” he said.

Those participated in the three day workshop are members of the State House of Assembly, associations of Persons with Disability, government officials and relevant stakeholders respectively.

Insecurity: Gov. Bello approved immediates declaration of proclamation in Zamfara

Zamfara State Governor (Dr) Bello Mohammed Matawalle has approved an immediate declaration of proclamation on the entire state.

This was contained in a press release signed by the Special Adviser to Governor on Media, Public Enlightenment and Communications, Mallam Zailani Bappa and made available to newsmen in Gusau the state capital.

The statement explained that, the motives behind the signed of the declaration emanates from the Presidential order of ‘shoot on sight” by the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria on any body found to be wielding guns unlawfully.

The statement further stated that, Governor Bello Mohammed has signed and approved the order of declaration of proclamation on the entire land in order to bring sanity and prevent the escalation of lawlessness in the state.

“In exercse of the powers confered on me on that behalf, I Dr Bello Mohammed, MON, (Matawallen Maradun, Shattiman Sakkwato), make the following proclamation" he reiterated

According to him the whole area of Zamfara State is declared to be a proclaimed district.

The Governor ordered that all firearms in illegal possession of all persons in Zamfara state are to be handed over to the nearest Police station within seven days of this proclamation.

" all officers and soldiers of the Armed Forces, Department of State Security Service, Nigerian Security and Civil Defense Corps are hereby conferred with powers of arrest” the governor directed.

He further call on all Zamfara citizens to abide by the law and make the state safer and free from the acts of lawlessness compounded by lingering problem of banditry.

Gov. Matawalle visits Zamfara CP, commends Officers and men for their commitment in crime preventions

Zamfara State Governor Hon. Dr. Muhammed Bello Matawalle Maradun has paid an unscheduled visit to Zamfara State Police Command Headquarters Gusau.


In a statement issued to press by the State command Public Relations Officer SP Muhammad Shehu said the visit was part of His Excellency’s encouragement to officers and men of the command who have been working tirelessly to protect lives and properties of peace loving people of Zamfara State.


The Governor who was received by the Commissioner of Police CP Hussaini Rabiu and members of the command management team commended the  officers and men of the command for their unalloyed commitment and determination in tackling the activities of recalcitrant bandits and other criminal elements who have been making lives of innocent people unbearable in the state. 


The Governor used the forum to called on them to redouble their efforts, as his government is always ready to support them with all the logistics that will make them to function effectively.


He thanked the Commissioner of Police and his team for their leadership capacity which has gone along way in  professional handling of critical security issues especially  the recent riot  organised by some unscrupulous elements in Kuryar Madaro and Maguru areas of Kaura Namoda LGA, in order to undermine the peace and stability of Zamfara State. 


Matawalle called on  Police and other security opertives in the state to always remain resolute and deal with any person or groups that embark on action capable of creating fear and confusion in the state. 
He also charged them to comply with the presidential directive regarding illegal possession of  AK 47 Rifle by unauthorised persons and groups in the state. 

 Responding, the Commissioner of Police, Zamfara State Police Command, CP Hussaini Rabiu psc thanked His Excellency for the visit, noting that, the visit will boost the morale of the operatives in ending the prevailing security challenges in the state. 


CP Husaini also promised to work in synergy with the state government, other security agencies and relevant stakeholders in finding a lasting solution to the security challenges in the state.

Gov. Bello Matawalle condoles late DSP Ardo, donates cash and foodstuffs to the family

Governor Bello Muhammed Matawalle of Zamfara state has doneted N2 million and 10 bags of 50kg rice to the  family of late DSP Ardo who recently loss his life on duty.


Governor Bello who was represented by a powerful delegations led by the Special Adviser on Security matters, DIG Mamman Tsafe, mni (rtd ) also includes the Special Adviser, Public Enlightenment, Media and Communications, Mallam Zailani Bappa and ADC to His Excellency, DSP Aliyu for a condolence visit to the family of the deceased in Kebbi state also described the death of DSP Ardo as a great loss not only to the family of the deceased, but to the  nation at large.


Presenting the cash and foodstuffs to the family of the deceased at his residence in Birnin Kebbi, DIG Mamman Tsafe decribed the death DSP Ardo as a great loss not only to the family but nation at large.
He urged the family to bear the loss, reminding them that all souls must taste death. 


DIG Tsafe said during his life period, late Ardo was  a courageous and dedicated Young Officer who served his nation deligently. 


“late Ardo has left behind a legacy of excellence in service to humanity that will take time to filled” he stated.


Earlier in his address, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Media Zailani Bappa urged the family to pray for the deceased for Allah blessings hereafter. as a destiny and a trial to their lives.


Responding, the family’s of the deceased have expressed happiness over the visit and state government contribution to the late Ardo families.

Zamfara Governor constitutes 7-man c,tte to investigates suspended traditional rulers

 Zamfara state Governor, Hon. (Dr) Bello Mohammed Matawalle has approved the constitution of Seven -man (7) Committee to investigate the motives behind the recent suspensions the two traditional rulers in the state

Already, the state government through the office of the Special Adviser on Media and Public Enlightement and Communication, Mallam Zailani Bappa has issued a statement for the Executive Governor’s approval for the immediate suspensions of the two traditional rulers namely, His Royal Highness, the Emir of Dansadau, Alhaji Hussani Umar and that of Nasaraw Mailayi in Birnin Magaji local Government district head Alhaji Bello Wakalla over security allegations in their domains.


The Committe members according vto the statement comprises DIG Moh’d Ibrahim Tsafe (rtd)  as Chairman; with the following personalities to serve as members, Hon. Yusuf Alhassan Kanoma, Hon. Ibrahim T Tukur,  Sheikh Ahmad Umar Kanoma , Sheikh Abdullahi Umar Dalla Dalla, Sheikh Kabir Umar Maru while, Barr Abdurrashid Haruna will serve as Secretary of the committee respectively.


They are expected to submit their findings to the state government after completion of the investigation for further action, the statement reiterated. The statement further wishes to re-iterated for effectively implementation of the presidential order to shoot any bandit, person or group seen with guns other than those approved to lawfully carry guns.
